Hi all,

I'm looking at using Publisher 2003 on Windows 10. So publisher 2003 is version 11.

however, we have a few different versions of 2003.

so

11.8166.8172 (can insert EPS)

11.8324.8329 (can insert EPS)

but the only one i have installation files for is

11.8402.8405 (cannot insert EPS)

I need a version that is older than 11.84...

does anyone know where i can download the exact version?

Many Thanks,

Terry

Thanks, I'll give that a go.

if it is a typo I blame the internet it's a copy and paste job.

    bye for now

By the way, you might want to only install SP2 for Office 2003. SP3 might be why you cannot insert EPS files.

I actually run Publisher 2003 for some production work and did not install SP3. I could not remember exactly why but ran across this article today that reminded me. SP3 prevents opening some older file formats that MSFT has deemed dangerous.

Reference: Traps in Office 2003 Service Pack 3: https://office-watch.com/2007/traps-in-office-2003-service-pack-3/  - "SP3 is full of blatant Microsoft cost-cutting measures. Instead of making Office 2003 more secure and fully functional the company chose to block existing Office 2003 features that would have been too expensive for them to fix. It’s cheaper for Microsoft to disable a feature instead of making it work properly."

I would suggest that you save a copy of both SP2 and SP3 for Office 2003, as I would guess that MSFT will soon remove them.

Legacy Windows and Office can make good economic sense from a user point of view. It does mean you have to be more proactive about malware.

    • Be very careful about opening files you get from the internet, download or email.
    • Have a high rated anti malware program running all the time.
    • Have at least a second, and maybe more, high rated anti malware program(s) that you use to run periodically (daily, weekly ...) , after shutting down your constantly running tool
    • Consider running your legacy OS and applications inside a write protected VM that you reload daily

Thanks for the education and your time.

I think I will stay with my legacy Office and Windows machines...

    Rohn,

I guess that makes sense, in a MSFT-Think sort of way. Win10 is the 'last version of Windows'...and will just continue to evolve, with mandatory 'updates'. I can see why they would treat Office the same way.

Does Word 2019 show version 16 too? As you describe the 'About...' information no longer working as it did, perhaps the version # is no longer relevant.

    Thanks.
