I am not able to enable the text import wizard in the new office 365 excel

Tried to add old legacy text wizzards via Options as per https://support.office.com/en-us/article/text-import-wizard-c5b02af6-fda1-4440-899f-f78bafe41857

but Legacy Wizards under Get Data remain grayed out. There's no "new"/old option to use an old import text wizard while pasting a line from CSV added to the context menu (it appeared earlier right after pasting a line in a cell). I also restarted the Excel to make sure the changes were live and checked Options if the checkboxes were unmarked once again, but everything was fine there and saved as I wanted.

What I need to do is to copy only a single row from CSV (values separated with semicolons) and then spread/populate the inserted data from a single cell to the rest of the columns (all values separated with semicolons should move to their respective columns). For clarification:

  • I copy a single row from CSV - values are separated with semicolons; everything between two commas should be treated as a single value (even if there are any commas inside)
  • Paste it to a single cell (first in a row)
  • Now I want to move every value to a separate, corresponding column (second value should move to second column in a row, third to the third and so on)

How to achieve that now?

    Dear Malgorzata,

Do you want to get the following result?

Could you upload some screenshots showing the issue you are experiencing in your environment for our clarification?

Meanwhile, I’d like you to upload a full screenshot of the Account page in the Excel 2016 application you are using. You can access the page via File>Account.

Note: Remove any private information before uploading the screenshots.

    Best Regards,

    Cliff

    Dear Malgorzata,

    Thanks for your updates.

As the numbers in the screenshots may be related to the private information, I’d like to confirm whether the screenshots can be shared publicly. If yes, please add your confirmation.

Meanwhile, I’m afraid that the importing csv data option in Excel 2016 now may need to import the data from a file now. I suggest you submit your feedback on our Excel UserVoice as it is the direct platform for our product developers to know users ‘ requirements and suggestions in their environments for product improvements.

Moreover, as the Legacy Wizards option is greyed out in your Excel application in your environment, I suggest you go to Control Panel>Programs>right-click on the Office applications’ icon>Change>Online Repair and then restart the Excel application to see the result.

    Best Regards,

    Cliff

    Dear Malgorzata,

Thanks for your updates and understanding.

Now let’s get focused on the issue that the Legacy Wizard option is greyed out in your Excel application in your environment. As the option isn’t stable in your Excel 2016 application, I suggest you back up all your Office data, use the uninstall tool in the article to uninstall the Office applications in your environment and then re-install the Office applications from the Office 365 portal to see the result.

Meanwhile, to check if the issue is related to your current local user profile on your computer, I suggest you use a new local user profile to log into your computer and then do a test to see the result. If the issue doesn’t happen in the new local user profile, I suggest you post a new thread on the Windows category for expert help.

    Best Regards,

    Cliff

    Hi,

I've covered all the informations which can tell anything, so yes, the rest can stay in public as it is. I will definitely send a request on the forum you suggested, thank you :)

Unfortunately, Online Repair didn't change the behavior of Legacy Wizards, as it still remains grayed out. Just in case, I'm adding also a screenshot from Options>Data. maybe it's a Windows 8.1 issue only? Unfortunately, I can't check this hypothesis myself :<

Hi! Thanks for the reply :)

I'm first copying a csv line generated by another program I'm working in to Excel to work on it further:

In "good old times" I simply chose the txt wizard from the context menu, but it's no longer to be found there. (this method was quite fast, even though Text wizard had to be set manually every time and changed from comma to semicolon):

After using it I normally got something like this:

Something has changed now (probably that's because I had to restart my computer). I can now click on Legacy Wizard and then on "From Text". However, I now have to select a file... which is totally inconvenient and an overkill for me. This way it would require me to create another file and then use text wizard (much more clicking than before).

As I wrote this (and before trying to import a file), Legacy Wizards became grayed out again :x No matter where I click or whether I have anything in the clipboard or not.

    Here is requested account screenshot.
