    Hi Sonya,

Thank you for your message in this forum.

According to the error message you provided, it seems that this problem is caused by the fact that the notebook name does not match the rules.

I have tested it with my OneNote for Windows 10, as steps shown below:

I went to OneNote > click Add notebook > typed the notebook name as “Text”, then the notebook has been created successfully, as shown below:

So I suggest you create a new notebook named as Text to check if the same problem will occur.

At the same time, you can refer to this article: Invalid file names and file types in OneDrive, OneDrive for Business, and SharePoint to check if the notebook contains invalid characters. Please also check if there is a notebook with the same name as this notebook.

If the problem persists, I want to confirm the information below with you:

    1. May I know if you are using OneNote for Windows 10 or OneNote 2016? Could you provide the version of your OneNote? If you are using OneNote for Windows 10, you can go to OneNote > Settings > About and provide the screenshot of it. If you are using OneNote 2016, you can go to OneNote File > Account > Product Information and provide the screenshot of it.
    2. You can go to OneNote Online to create a new notebook to check if the same problem will occur.
    3. Could you provide the screenshot of error message?

    Best Regards,

    Sukie

Thank you for the help Sukie.

Even I faced a similar issue. I went to OneDrive.com online and checked, I was able to access my OneNote online app and was able to create new notebooks in it. Next, I went to the OneNote app and clicked on reset app settings. And then, when I opened the OneNote app again, it asked me to log in to my Microsoft account and then I was able to access all the notebooks which I had created online.

    Hi Sonya,

Thank you for posting back and providing the screenshots.

According to the screenshot you provided, it seems that you cannot use OneNote Online.

You mentioned “I am using Windows 10 Home.”, does it mean that you are using Office 365 Home account? If so, you can go to OneDrive Online and sign in it to check if it will show a popup which tells you your account has been frozen. If so, you can unfreeze it to check if the same problem will occur. For more details, you can refer to the advice of Anthony in this thread and the advice of mjvanleeuwen in this thread. The member who had the similar issue fixed the issue by unfreezing the Microsoft account. He tried to access other MS apps and OneDrive Online, and a pop up showed that his account was frozen. You can also check whether this is the same cause of the issue you meet.

If the suggestion above doesn’t work, you can backup all your notebooks(If you have notebooks), then you can go to Windows Start > Search OneNote for Windows 10 > right- click and select App Setting > Reset to check if the same problem will occur.

If the problem persists, I want to confirm the information below with you:

    1. May I know if you are using Office 365 Business account or Office 365 account or Microsoft account?
    2. Do all the Office Online applications have the same problem?

@Dwight, you can also try the suggestions I mentioned above to check if the same problem will occur.

At the time, could you provide the screenshot of error message? May I know if you are using Office 365 Business account or Office 365 account or Microsoft account?

    Best Regards,

    Sukie

I have the same error message. It doesn't matter what text I type in or what type of Notebook I use.

Has anyone got an answer yet?
