When using Word through Office 365 I look for the thesaurus tool in the Review tab and it isn't there.
How do I make it appear?

Hi, thanks for the advice, however when I press shift-f7 nothing happens.
Does the repair tool work with Office 365? It appears to be for desktop versions.
Are you using the online version of Office 365? I know the online applications have limitations compared to the desktop applications especially in excel. I have o365 which comes with office 2016 which I can install on up to five devices. I'll have a look to see if I can enable it on word online for you later
Hi I'm Peter an independent advisor, sorry to hear about your problem. Pressing Shift+F7 would open the Thesaurus pane (is that what you have been doing?). If it isn't working properly, try repairing Office from Control Panel; see https://support.office.com/en-us/article/Repair....
