Updates won't install for Excel and Word

Ever since purchasing a new subscription for Office for my Mac, Excel and Word won't update.  It tries every time but has never successfully worked.

Any suggestions? (I am finding Word also suddenly says I don't have permission to open documents when moments before I did so I force quit and try again and it works.)

Hi TripleFFF,

I tested on my mac and the Office for Mac could update without any issue. However, I still want to provide you some suggestions and hope they can help you.

1.You may need to check your current MAU version. When you open the MAU(open Word>Help>Check for Updates), please click on the top ribbon > Microsoft AutoUpdate > About Microsoft AutoUpdate to check the current version. The latest version is 4.15.

If your MAU is not up to date, here is an articlefor you to download the latest MAU.

If your MAU is up to date, I think it’s recommended for you to check the Troubleshoot Microsoft AutoUpdate section mentioned in this article.

If your issue persists, can you provide me your error screenshot?

Regards,

April

Wow, thanks April.  I did have the latest version so I went to the article to Troubleshoot Microsoft AutoUpdate and it suggested checking the library to ensure com.microsoft.autoupdate.helpertool was in the PrivillegedHelperToolsfolder, which it was.  It then says after checking to run AutoUpdate again and this time Excel and Word installed properly.  Odd but I'm glad it worked.

    Thank you!
