Excel for Android - blank formula bar after switching between apps then back to Excel

I have Excel open with a timesheet Spreadsheet most of the day on my Samsung Note 8 phone, but switch to different apps as required throughout the day.

When I switch back to Excel to update the timesheet file, the Formula bar does not usually display the data that is currently in the cell (most of the time). If I tap somewhere in the Formula Bar and start typing, I cannot see what I am typing in the Formula Bar, but can see what I am typing in the Cell.

If I close the app and restart and load the file again, it usually works okay.

This problem has been present for a long time (Years) and has never been fixed. The problem was also present on my last phone (Asus) and possibly earlier.

The Spreadsheet is not protected.

Any solutions?

Thanks.

    Thanks for your reply.

I'm assuming you are meaning Excel for Windows. In Options/Advanced Options, there is the option to display or not display the Formula Bar.

The problem I'm having is with Excel for Android. There appears to be no option to turn the formula bar on or off in Settings. It is always there. It is the data that is in the cell is not showing in the (visible) Formula Bar.

The software is pre-installed on the Note 8, so all I can do is uninstall all the updates.

I have done this and reapplied the updates and it still does it.

To replicate the problem, open Excel for Android, enter something in a spreadsheet. Don't save the spreadsheet.

Switch over to other apps for a while, then switch back to your spreadsheet and tap on the cell you entered (which is visible in the cell). However the Formula Bar is blank.

If you close and save the spreadsheet before you switch to another App and then re-open it when you switch back to Excel, it works okay.

    Hi,

    Thanks for writing back.

The Advanced options of the Excel Options dialog box. Click on the Show Formula Bar check box. If it is selected, then the Formula Bar is displayed; not selected means it won't be displayed.

    Thank you
