How to properly show Arabic Diacritic symbols.

Hi,

While typing Arabic words some words have stacked diacritics like.  اَللّٰھُمَ which means O our Lord (God) see there are two symbols, one ّ and other ٰ which are stacked.

While typing ّٰ in word, these do not show up properly and get printed properly. Looks like one is being hidden beneath some invisible space.

A picture is attached.

I hope there is already some setting to be changed.

Now how it should be?

This is how it is shown (correctly) in InPage

Perhaps it is a font issue.

I have tried a lot of fonts and only workable solution is the setting the "before paragraph" spacing to at least 6pt.

If ever found a solution, I will post it :)

There are other fonts that don't have this problem. If you need to use a specific font that has it, try Doug Robbins' suggestion here about changing the line spacing under Paragraph to Exact, with the appropriate value under "at".

    Before

    After

The thing is, it's a font issue not a Word issue. Not all Arabic fonts are made to fully support diacritics over ascenders or under descenders. If you need to stick to a problematic font, then what is done in Word is just a workaround. It's a trial-and-error case with every font and font size. If you find a satisfactory setting with your font, why don't you apply it to your whole document?

What is your font and font size? I can do some testings if you want.

    Hi Barkoosh

I am very thankful for your response.

The paragraph line spacing with exact value at didn't solve the issue. However I solved it by adjusting the before value.

However this is still a temporary issue. Because who knows in a document of 200 lines which word needs 12pt before space and hence ruin the entire line...

I think there must have been some other way in which the spacing gets auto-adjusted...

    Hi Warsi,

I appreciate you bringing this to our attention. I'd like to know few information, kindly provide the answers to the questions below:

    • When did the issue start?
    • Does the same thing happen in other Office apps?
    • What are the troubleshooting steps you've tried?

I suggest that you remove and re-add the language, and see if the same thing happens. Here's an article on how to remove languages.

To notify me and have me get back to you, simply reply to this post.
