I have OneNote files from Office 2007. I recently installed Office 365, but the Note files cannot be converted. The message says there may be help here but I'm not seeing anything that seems applicable. How can I convert my notes to use the new OneNote?

I assume you have Office 365 and an old OneNote 2007 installed.

AND you found a new OneNote which has no File Menu.

This OneNote is OneNote for Windows 10 and cannot open OneNote files from the 2007 version.

It even cannot open any local OneNote files on your computer. It only can open OneNote files stored on OneDrive, the Microsoft cloud.

Now you have 3 alternatives:

#1

Ignore OneNote for Windows 10 and stay with OneNote 2007.

#2

Install OneNote 2016:

https://support.office.com/en-us/article/onenote-2016-is-missing-after-installing-office-365-or-office-2019-1844ba87-7248-4bd8-a735-66a52f98e6e5?omkt=en-US&ui=en-US&rs=en-US&ad=US

Then open your OneNote 2007 files and convert them to the 2010-2016 format. Still use local OneNote files.

#3

Use alternative #2 and then move your converted OneNote files to OneDrive by using the File --> Share feature of OneNote 2016. Now you can stay with OneNote 2016 or you can open the moved OneNote files in the new OneNote for Windows 10.

If you want a recommendation: Install OneNote 2016 and stay with it.

Hi KenParker6, my name is Jay, an independent advisor and I'll do my best to help today.

You can convert your notes if you have OneNote 2016, not the Windows 10 version. Do you have the 2016 one?

But, aren't you trying to convert those files to a newer OneNote?

Hi Jay; thanks for responding. I don't have OneNote 2016, I have OneNote 2007.
