Basic Inventory Management

I would basically like to have 3 columns... Part number, description, and quantity. I will be using a barcode scanner and thermal label printer to generate my own barcodes. Once I have my product table built, I would like to simply scan a barcode, and have excel automatically find that product in the table and either add to, or take away from the quantity column respectively... Has anyone done this, and could help with figuring out how to write the script to make this happen? I am assuming there will be two "trigger" barcodes that would need to be scanned first.... one that tells it to add to, and on that tells it to take away. Any information would be appreciated!

    Hi Shadow

Please, find in the link below a sample file with my approach as a solution to your query

    https://1drv.ms/x/s!AjGRD1TlwpAGlFRSGELA7zF1XuoD?e=6J61pe

    Notes:

1- On the "Inventory" tab sheet.

Create a unique list with all your Items/Part as you mentioned in your post (check the Picture 1)

2- To ADD or TAKE AWAY any Part/Item

    Go to sheet "Inventory Management"

    a) Select part IN or OUT from the drop-down list (conditional formatting helps to identify it)

    b) Select the cell B4 for the "Barcode Part number" and scan your product.

This will automatically Add or Take away  the items depending on your IN/OUT choice

3- The "Inventory Log" sheet will record all your inventory transactions. (as a Bonus)

    Hope this helps you

    Regards

    HAPPY NEW YEAR!

    Shadow,

Here is a Youtube video that demonstrates how it works. I've known there to be Excel addins, but after some research it would appear that the functionality is built into the BarCode Reader software, if it is installed on the computer with the Excel application you are using. You just select the cell and scan the item(s). You would have to use a Count function to update the totals.

There are some other useful technique videos on Youtube as well. Also, here is a link to the Tbarcode Office Website. There is a cost associated with the plugin, however, it would likely have more features.
