In a classic publishing site when I go to site contents > site pages tile, the default home aspx page opens instead of a library view. Why and how do I fix this? The tile is linked to https://xxxxx.sharepoint.com/site/SitePages

    Hi webbrewers3,

Enter https://xxxxx.sharepoint.com/<sub-site-name>/SitePages URL will redirect us go to https://xxxx.sharepoint.com/sites/site name/SitePages/Forms/ByAuthor.aspx this page.

As your https://xxxxx.sharepoint.com/<sub-site-name>/SitePages links to site home aspx page which is a weird issue should be fixed by backend. We sincerely suggest you raise a ticket in Office 365 admin center-> Support-> New Service Request, the back-end team will provide further suggestion for you to fix this.

Please don’t mind we can’t provide more suggestion for you since we have limited recourse. Thanks for your understanding.

    Regards,

    Ivy

Normally, the default site home page URL is like this: https://tenantname.sharepoint.com/sites/sitename/sitepages/pagename.aspx

???? Not necessarily. Not sure why you don't understand the question. https://xxxxx.sharepoint.com/<sub-site-name>/SitePages should take you to the default view of the site pages library. It's been that way since SP was created.

    Hi webbrewers3,

Based on our test, the default view URL after clicking  site contents > site pages is like:

    https://xxxx.sharepoint.com/sites/site name/SitePages/Forms/ByAuthor.aspx

You mentioned your default URL is : https://xxxx.sharepoint.com/sites/site name/SitePages/Home.aspx. This URL is the default page after clicking this classic site.

To further investigate this issue, we suggest you try these steps to check the outcomes:

    1. Try another classic site to check if the issue occurs.
    2. Enter this URL directly: https://xxxx.sharepoint.com/sites/site name/SitePages/Forms/ByAuthor.aspx to check if you can access it or not.
    3. Click the Page tile in the site side navigation bar to see which page will redirect.

Meantime, we want to collect more information to move further:

    1.  Does this issue only happen to specific classic publishing site?

    1. Does this issue happen to all the users?
    2. Can you provide the full URL for us to understand better?

    Regards,

    Ivy

    Hi webbrewers3,

When I enter this URL, I will have this error because there is no URL of SharePoint like this.

You said you didn’t go to this URL after clicking site pages :  https://xxxx.sharepoint.com/sites/site name/SitePages/Home.aspx.  Can you please provide the full screenshot(include site URL) of the default page after clicking site contents > site pages?  It will help us to understand the situation of this issue.

    Regards,

    Ivy

You mentioned your default URL is : https://xxxx.sharepoint.com/sites/site name/SitePages/Home.aspx. This URL is the default page after clicking this classic site.

No I didn't - please reread the question.
