Trying to save an image as separate file but option "Save as picture" is greyed out. Any ideas what's the cause and how to fix this?

Hi IgorKozarchuk! I'm Stephen, an Independent Advisor here in the Microsoft Answers Community.

Sorry for the inconvenience you're experiencing from this issue.

I recommend you to try these steps below and let's see if this works.

When you're done copying the picture.

    1. Go to Home
    2. Click the arrow under Paste
    3. Click Paste Special

    CTRL+ALT+V for shortcut

You then can now right-click the pasted object to Save As Picture.

Hope this helps! Please feel free to reply to this message. I'm willing to help you with your concern.

    I'm having the same problem.

Since a system update, I can't right click and save as a picture from Word. The "save as picture" option is greyed out.

After I select "Paste special" a window opens which suggests 2 options "Paste as Bitmap" or "Paste as Device Independent Bitmap".

Anyway, it doesn't solve the issue. Previously it was all good. I guess "Save as picture" option stopped working after the latest Office update. My current version is 1912.

Same exact problem.  Even after a fresh install, issue doesn't seem to affect other apps like Publisher.  Hopefully MS will have a fix soon.

I am having exactly the same problem after one of the Microsoft updates.  It certainly isn't the first time that Microsoft has stuffed up updates.  They really need to test and check more thoroughly.  I can work around this using Photoshop but I shouldn't have to.  I expect and paid for Word to work
