Cannot close Word document (Word for iPad)

I am trying to close a Word document created in Office 365 on my iPad. I get a spinning wheel with a dialog box stating “Closing: (Name of document). I cannot access anything else in the application. How do I close the document and save the changes?

    This error causes the current changes made to the document to not be saved since the only way to use Word is to restart the app.  I have lost 3 research documents to this error.  The contents are not saved on OneDrive and any changes made are lost. This an an unacceptable situation.

    I am Manuel E, an independent advisor willing to help other Microsoft clients.

    I apologize in advance for the inconvenience you are having with Word cannot close Word document.

    You can try the following procedures below to reset the Office apps in iOS devices:

    1. Close all the Office for iPad apps. To do this, press the Home button on your iPad twice, swipe to find each Office for iPad app, and then swipe the preview screen up to close each app.
    2. Go to iPad Settings.
    3. In Settings, tap to select one of your Office for iPad apps such as Word, Excel, or PowerPoint.
    4. Under RESET, tap Reset <app name>.
    5. Slide to enable Delete Login Credentials.
    6. Start one of your Office for iPad apps so that your credential is deleted.
    7. Sign in using your Office 365 credentials account.

    Note: You may need to delete the credential for each Office for iPad app.

    Which version of Word are you running and on which operating system?

    In Windows, you can press Ctrl+Alt+Del to access Task Manager and then force a program to close.
