When I try to add an Italian dictionary to Office it installs the full Italian version of Office! This creates software conflicts. How can I just install a dictionary?

What you are seeing is normal for recent versions of Word. Installing a language accessory pack appears to install Office once again, and when the procedure has finished, you'll see a new entry in the list of installed programs. I see it here, using US English for the user interface and Swedish as the proofing language:

Hi. Thanks for taking the time to reply.

I have tried this, but when I do it shows that the keyboard is enabled for Italian, but that the language is not installed for proofing etc. When I follow the link it eventually leads to me download the Italian version of the full Office suite, not just the language pack.

That doesn't happen with French, as seen in the attached screenshot.

The help desk were not able to help. I don't think they understood what I was trying to explain.

    Hi Rob

Are you downloading a Language pack for Word?

If so, there is no need to do that . . .

Open Word, go to File - Options, and on the left, click Language

On the right, in the bottom pane, click 'Add a Language'

Then select Italian from the resulting list

That will add the Italian proofing language, and not change the language used for the menus . . etc. in Word . . .
