Totally ridiculous that Msft introduces hidden fields in the modern ui yet doesn't expose them in the classic version that SPO is still based on.

    Hi Webbrewers3,

I understand your feeling, modern experience is designed to be compelling, flexible and more performant, so it should be easier to find the internal field names from the UI itself. Given the situation, you can consider providing your feedback in SharePoint UserVoice and let the Product Group know.

    Regards,

The modern ui is supposed to be easier to use but if we have to invoke powershell to get something as simple as an internal field name that was an easy task in classic, I guess that's not the case.

    Hi Webbrewers3,

The internal field name is FirstPublishedDate.

I used a powershell script to export the internal fields name. Here's the article for your reference.

I'm  simply asking what the internal field name is. It shouldn't be that hard. Is it "FirstPublishedDate"?

    Hi Webbrewers3,

I understand First Published Date field is hidden field in modern UI and is not available in classic version.

In this regard, I’ll suggest you check the following article for help.

What makes a page to be a news page on SharePoint Online

Given the situation, I’ll suggest you post in SharePoint UserVoice and let the Product Group know your requirement. UserVoice is the best way to give the feedback to Product Group as it’s actively monitored by them and many new features have been implemented from our customers feedback.

    Thanks for understanding.

    Regards,

    Neha
