Excel Scatter Plot with Date on Horizontal Axis Not Displaying Properly

Title exactly. The released column's cells are formatted as dates, but for some reason the horizontal axis on the scatter plot is starting at 1900. (Image is old, but even changing the x axis to match the same date formatting of yyyy-mm-dd does not fix anything.)

I figured it out and wanted to let you know since you tried to help me out. The date information was stored as text because it came from a database. When I formatted the cells to date, I assumed Excel understood my intentions, but it never actually converted the cells to the date format. To fix it, I used the =VALUE() function in another column for each cell, then formatted the new column as date. Presto. Problem solved. Thank you.

Yes, I did that which is why the axis is in date format, but the dates are all incorrect. I checked the link you sent me, and my axis options are not in date form. The bounds are from 0 to 3000 and the units are major 500 and minor 100. Display units only has powers of ten.

A lot of forums discussed a line chart but I want specifically a scatter plot because I'm not examining trends over time but specific values at certain dates. Not to mention possible overlapping dates.
