Stop Check In/Check Out notification from constantly popping up while working on a PowerPoint file located on Sharepoint?

While working on a PowerPoint file located on a sharepoint server, the application constantly displays a yellow bar notifying me that the document is either checked out and needs to be checked in for other users to be able to see my changes and edit the file.

I don't need that functionality, and when I close the notification, within in a matter of seconds, the notification reappears. Even if I don't close the notification it will intermittently disappear and reappear. This is a problem because it changes the size of the slide displayed on the screen.

This is a distraction and makes me less productive.

Any help?

    Hi,

We are glad that you have solved the issue of stopping check in/out. Per your requirement of version tracking in SharePoint, please go to your library> Settings> Library Settings> Versioning Settings> See the following screenshot.

You can refer to this article:  Enable and configure versioning for a list or library

To view the version history of your file, please click the file> click three eclipse> Version history> see the result.  For more information, see https://support.office.com/en-us/article/View-the-version-history-of-an-item-or-file-in-a-list-or-library-53262060-5092-424D-A50B-C798B0EC32B1[View the version history of an item or file in a list or library](https://support.office.com/en-us/article/View-the-version-history-of-an-item-or-file-in-a-list-or-library-53262060-5092-424D-A50B-C798B0EC32B1)

If this does not meet your requirement or I misunderstand it, please point it out and tell us more details, we are willing to help you all the time.

    Best regards,

    Gloria

I have the same problem. I wish to have the document checked out, so it doesn't get locked by someone else editing and so others see the changes only when I'm prepared to check them in. But the banner popping up and disappearing is extremely annoying. As described, it apparently resizes the screen by adding the banner every time it auto-saves, which I don't want to disable because I've been burned by that really hard. Even if the banner just stays on the screen, that would be better than this constant distraction of it appearing for 2 or 3 seconds and then disappearing.

I am using Sharepoint Online set up through a corporate account.

I have followed your suggestion, and now this document does not require a check in/check out.

However, I now need to research versioning, as the loss of the check in/check out function appears to eliminate version tracking.

    Hi,

Thanks for your query in this community.

Per your description, you would like to stop check in/ check out notification on SharePoint, I have test it on my side, but I can not see the yellow notification as you mentioned. In your post, you mentioned "PowerPoint file located on a sharepoint server", may I confirm that you are using SharePoint Online or SharePoint Server?

If you are using SharePoint Online, please make sure you have set “require check-out/check-in” button on. Go to your library> Settings> Library settings> Version settings> Require Check Out> No> OK> then see the result.

If you are using SharePoint server, as our community is not support this, we would like to suggest you posting a new thread in TechNet forum to get the dedicated assistance to solve your issue.

    Hope this can help you.

    Your understanding is much appreciated!

    Best regards,

    Gloria
