Office 365 "The operating system is not presently configured to run this application." Windows 10

Hi all,

I had checked a bunch on google related to this, but other than non-scientific old Youtube videos to fix the issue, couldn't find much, and they didn't help either.

As of now, this issue is persistent on 2 of my machines, using different activation of Windows, one is Windows 10 Education and the other is Windows 10 Pro. Both of these machines are sort of up to date with updates.

I logged on to my Office account to download and install on the systems, but both the system show the same behavior post install: not launching any Office 365 apps, and with some apps, it shows the error: "The operating system is not presently configured to run this application."

For troubleshooting, I've tried to reinstall/change/modify/repair Office with no effect. Ran the product in various compatibility modes, no effect. Downloaded and ran Microsoft Support and Recovery Assistant, tried to reinstall windows and try again, with no change in the situation.

It's frustrating to see a Microsoft product: Office365 not being able to run on an up to date Microsoft product: Windows 10, when some of these apps are absolutely essential for education and content creation and much more.

Any and all help is appreciated, please let me know if you have any follow up questions, or need any details.

Thanks,

Best,

Mehul

2.In Programs and Features check and make sure that you do not have multiple installations of Office 365 proplus.

3.If found, then after checking the versions make sure to remove/uninstall other Office installations. Once you have removed unwanted multiple versions of Office make sure to repair the current Office 365 installation.

3.Right-click on the Office 365 installation and click on Change > Online Repair.

3.Once repaired make sure to restart your computer.

2.Right-click on the selected Office application and tap or click Open file location.

3.The Windows Explorer is opened with the selected Office application highlighted.

4.Right-click the Office application icon that is causing the error and tap or click Properties.

6.Uncheck Run this program in compatibility mode and tap or click OK.

If issue still persist, we need to collect following information:

1.Screenshot of Office version (Click File>select Account).

    1. Screenshot of error message.

    3.The detailed version number of your OS(Click Win+R>type CMD>OK

    1. Confirm you are using 32bit Windows but installed the 64bit office?

We greatly appreciate your understanding and time.

Totally irrelevant, as Outlook doesn't launch, the whole issue is that apps don't launch. Please read the whole issue and then try and provide a resolution.

This isn't a fix, just a possible workaround:

Error: The operating system is not presently configured to run this application.

This issue can occur with certain actions:

    ·    Using Send To / Mail To.

    ·    May occur when trying to open the Mail Applet in the control panel.

    ·    When using the Outlook Object Model attempting to either attach to or invoke a new Outlook session from a stand-alone program.

    ·    RuntimeBroker.exe process may cause the error.

Workaround: In some cases you may need to use Task Manager to end the task or you can restart Outlook.
