"System Resources Exceeded" and Affinity (Access 2016)

When trying to open a table (MS Access 2016, fully patched), I get a message "system resources exceeded".

I can eliminate this error if I set the task affinity to use only one CPU.

Powerful PC - 8 core Intel i7.  16 Gb memory.

Is there a patch for this issue that prevents us from using multiple CPUs at a time?

(Research indicates that this defect has been an issue for years now, going back to Access 2010)

Pretty sad - I've done some searching, and I found posts from 10 years ago complaining about this.

    Running Microsoft Office 365 ProPlus.

I get the error when I run queries that include "Group By" clauses.    Everything works after I go to Task Manager and set the affinity to use only one CPU (My PC has 8 CPUs).

    Hi Danh4_PA,

From your description, when you open an Access file with Access application, you will receive a “System Resources Exceeded” message. First of all, I

would like to confirm with you which Office version you are using either you are using Office 2016 suit or Office 365 ProPlus. You can go to File>

Account > Under Product information page to find it. If it is convenient, you can share a screenshot of the problem information page with us here.

As Daniel mentioned, you can also share more detail information about what are the processes you did before you received this message. Does this message only happen in certain Access file or all your Access files?

In addition, I also did some researches based on the message. I found a similar thread about Ms access 2016 System resource exceeded. You can refer to rodrinn’s post to set affinity in Task manager. You can have a look at your convenience.

    Best regards,

    Dihao

As you stated, this issue has long existed and no, I'm not aware of any official fix for this. What you are doing is the only thing I am aware of.
