The converter will only work if the wps file was created with Works versions 6 to 9. There are still plenty of documents around from earlier works versions. Works version 4.5 was particularly popular among those earlier versions.

If the document was created by one of those earlier versions see https://www.gmayor.com/downloads.htm .

You will probably have to address the Word file block settings for legacy files also, whichever converter is used.

If still you have Works installed on the same platform as Word, you can open the file in the Works word processor and save it as docx format. Note that Works 9 (the last Works version) will open all earlier works documents and may be installed in Windows 10.

If these are indeed Works documents, you should be able to use the converter, as Dave suggested.

However, *.wps could also mean Kingsoft Writer documents which can't be opened in Word.
