    Hi Emily,

Thank you for posting back and confirming the scenario above with us.

Based on your description, it seems that you want to insert vertical and horizontal swimlanes in the same page, however, when you tried dragging a horizontal one it just changes it to vertical.

If my understanding is right, we have tested it on our side and we cannot reproduce the same situation as yours, we can drag and drop vertical and horizontal swimlanes at the same time, as shown below:

Give the situation, we’d suggest you create a new page then insert horizontal swimlane to check if the same problem will occur.

You can also go to Control Panel > Programs > Programs and Features > select the Visio > right-click and select Change > Online repair.

If the problem still persists after trying the suggestions above, could you provide the information below?

    1. Could you provide the Product Information and version of your Visio? You can go to Visio > File > Account and provide the screenshot of full page of Account.
    2. May I know if all pages have the same problem? You can create a new page to check if the same problem will occur.

    Best Regards,

    Sukie

    Hi Emily,

Thank you for posting back and providing your feedback.

Per your description, it seems that basically what I showed in the screenshot is the effect you want, however, you just don’t want to add those vertical and horizontal swimlanes so close. And you don’t want to create two title bar sections.

Given this situation, we understand the inconvenience caused by it. And if you have any concerns, you can also provide feedback to our related team by clicking on the Smiley Face button inside Visio. This feedback will directly go to them so that our related team can hear your voice on this feature directly.

At the same time, we will keep this thread open, and welcome the community members share their suggestions here.

Your understanding and patience will be highly appreciated.

    Best Regards,

    Sukie

You can. The swimlanes are a special type of shape called a container. Unlike group shapes, the component shapes can be moved around.

You may have run into the issue that Visio thinks you are adding to an existing container because you are inside the container and adjusts according.

If you had a horizontal shape outside the existing swimlane container, it will remain horizontal. You just have to make sure you are outside the other container.

You should be able to add containers with containers, but it may be tricky,

So, if you want two swimlanes of different orientation on a page you can do it. A swimlane inside a swimlane may require a little finesse.

    Thank you Sukie

I got it to work, definitely a little tricky because Visio thinks it knows what I want.

    Hi Sukie,

I do want both swimlanes on the same page at the same time. However, when I insert a vertical swimlane, even when I try to drag and drop a horizontal one it just changes it to vertical.
