Migrating from Evernote to OneNote for MAC

Hello. I am trying to migrate my note files from Evernote for Mac to OneNote on my MAC.

I have read all of the support articles. I successfully downloaded the OneNote importer, and ran it. It seemed to run successfully, finding all of my Evernote notebooks and asking me to select the Evernote notebooks I wanted to import into OneNote. I left them all checked as selected, then clicked "continue", and waited for the prompt to "Select the Microsoft Account (Hotmail, Live, or Outlook.com) that you want to use with OneNote, or an account given to you by your work or your school." That prompt never appeared, and I have no idea where my Evernote .enex files went.

I tried this again with OneNote open, and again with OneNote closed. Each time, the OneNote importer finished successfully, but did not give me the chance to specify my Microsoft Account.

So, two questions please.

  1. Are the .enex files sitting somewhere that I can find and import them directly into OneNote? I haven't been able to find them on my computer or on OneDrive.
  2. If I run the OneNote Importer again, and it finishes correctly as it seems to do, how can I get the OneNote Importer to transfer those new .enex files into my OneNote account?

Thanks very much for any help you can offer.

Barry

Not quite a workaround for 19,000 notes in 300 notebooks. I would think Microsoft would be more interested in capturing Evernote customers. Perhaps you could pass this issue on to the appropriate channel within Microsoft for possible resolution.

Meanwhile, I am genuinely grateful for the personal time and effort you put in to trying to get this resolved. Stay safe and stay well.

Tried it as you outlined, with a new personal account.

    The exporter completed as before.

    The exporter stopped with:

When I press Continue, nothing happens. There are no imported notebooks that I can find anywhere.

I have tried exporting my entire 19,000 note Evernote file, then opening it with the "Import a file instead" link in the importer box above. But this just gives me all 19,000 notes, broken down in unorganized numbered groups of 100 notes each. I really need to maintain the organization of each of my Evernote notebooks as shown above in the dialogue box.

The importer spent hours importing each of my Evernote notebooks one at a time, and listed them neatly in the dialogue box above. Where does it put those files?

Thanks again for your help - it is much appreciated.

Thanks for getting back to me.

To exclude the reason from the account, please do following steps and see if you can migrate Evernote to a new Microsoft account.

    1. Export your Evernote to .enex files by click File > Export in Evernote desktop.
    2. create a new personal account for free.
    3. Run OneNote Exporter,  select .enex files at stpes 2 and sign in the new personal account at step 3

4.After done, go to OneNote online with your new perosnal account and see if the notebook is there.

    Regards,

    Eric

Hi, Eric. Thanks so much for your response.

So I opened a new InPrivate window in Microsoft Edge on my Mac, then ran the OneNote Importer again. It completed once again, showing the 308 Evernote notebooks it had found. All were checked by default.

Just to be sure I was doing it right, I went to OneNote online to see if they were there. They were not. I also looked in OneDrive - there was nothing there either.

I then went back to my InPrivate window, then clicked NEXT on the Importer, which still had all 308 files highlighted, to finish the import. Back to the InPrivate window, searched in my OneNote online and in my OneDrive, and found nothing again.

Was I supposed to run the Mac Importer program somehow INSIDE of the InPrivate Edge window? I don’t know how to do that - the Importer is a separate MAC program.

So close but yet so far! I greatly appreciate your help.

    Hi BarrySussman,

    I'm willing to help you.

    1. Are the .enex files sitting somewhere that I can find and import them directly into OneNote? I haven't been able to find them on my computer or on OneDrive.

No, OneNote can't recognize .enex file that why we need the importer.

    1. If I run the OneNote Importer again, and it finishes correctly as it seems to do, how can I get the OneNote Importer to transfer those new .enex files into my OneNote account?

Please open a new InPrivate Windows and run Importer again, if it finished successfully, go to OneNote online check if the changes appear and then click Open in OneNote on the ribbon.

You are free to post back.

    Regards,

    Eric
