word for mac 'arrange all'

Hi - I have a problem with the word for mac 'window' menu and the command 'arrange all'

Stupidly I used this for multiple documents, so Word resizes every document and tiles them on screen.

Ok so far, until I don't want to spend the rest of my life, resizing every document back to its full size. Or have all Word documents open forever at 1/8th of their normal size.

How do I stop Word from auto-resizing to a tiny tile size? How do I stop/undo/reset 'arrange all' - and why when I use it once, is it set as the default with no undo option??

Can anyone help? This is driving me mad as I use word docs all day long.. and every single one now must be resized every time I open it.

I have tried with resetting default normal template but it does not respond when opening more than 1 document at a time - I want to open multiples but have them stack in the normal way - not tiled and the etxra work that involves 'un-tiling'.

Isn't it possible to undo 'arrange all' and revert to the usual stacking, one on top of the other?? Thx

Well, windowing on a Mac is owned by the OS. There is little a developer can do to directly provide for specifying the dimensions of windows. Once upon a time there was a DocRestore command which still is listed but was killed by the OS several releases back.

AFAIK there is no UI control provided by the program or the OS for what you would prefer. As I suggested earlier it would have to be done programmatically.

Well, I disagree that "there is no other way", although most of them would require a macro or AppleScript which I'm not qualified to provide.

Even though it may not be exactly what you would prefer the simplest solution is to use the macOS feature to assign a keyboard shortcut to the Zoom command... At least it will expedite restoring the windows.

    Thanks Bob

Zoom is an option, but in the usual way, Word has fixed pre-sets for the zoom, so using the Zoom command doesn't expand to the screen size, but to a preset size in the programmme, which kinda defeats the object and reduces user choice - so I still have to manually resize, even with Zoom.

    Still, appreciate your input.

    Regards

    Hi DaveyGold,

I understand you are using “Arrange All” function in Word for mac to arrange all open windows and you would like to know if there’s a convenient way to bring back Word documents in previous size/view.

Unfortunately, Word does not automatically return you to a previous view when you use the “Arrange All”button, to return to the normal view of your documents, you must manually resize and move each document window**.**

I know it is frustrating to re-size every document to bring back in normal but there is no other way.

Personally, I agree it would be helpful if there’s an option to undo this. Given the situation, I’ll like to invite you to provide feedback in

Word for mac UserVoice post. UserVoice is the best way to give the feedback to Product Group as it’s actively monitored by them and many new features have been implemented from our customers feedback.

Thanks for understanding. Have a nice day and stay safe 😊

    Kind Regards,

    Neha
