SharePoint Site Traffic - Unique Visits Not Adding Up

Anonymous

There is a discrepancy between the Unique Viewers total that is reported vs the sum of the daily numbers in the chart. It's a significant delta. Curiously, the Site Visits total is exactly the same as the sum of the daily tally.

Is this happening to others? Is there something behind Unique Visits that creates this discrpency?

Also, is Unique Visits determined by unique IP addresses or through user access authentication?

Thanks!

Thank you Ivy! I really appreciate you looking into this. Below are two screen shots. The second is my own calculation of the daily numbers based on daily totals from the first screen shot. You can see that the total (3328) is way below what SP is reporting. So, your test isn't matching what I'm experiencing. Also, what is the difference between the 1501 and the 1445 Lifetime unique viewers?

    Dear esmith02,

Thanks for your patience and time.

Based on our test, we have added 2 users as site members in a site. So, there are 3 users in this site including one owner. After they access the site, the unique viewers show 3 and the site visits will be more.

In Official article, Unique viewers are the total number of individual visitors, regardless of how often they've visited. Unique Users shows the number of unique users per day. So, the count for the same user per day as 1. And the site visits number is the total number of visits to content on this site which includes a single item, page or document.

Hence, the unique viewers should be identified by user access authentication. Here are the articles I would like share with you:

View usage data for your SharePoint site

View usage reports in SharePoint Server

You are welcome to post back if you have further concern, we will try our best to assist. Have a great day!

    Best Regards,

    Ivy
