Excel Project Timeline

I need a timeline and would like it to look like graphic 1.  Problem is my dates are not in chronological order and I don't want to change them on the source document.  So I thought I could do a pivot table, linked to the source document, sorted chronologically.  But I just can't seem to make it work.  Excel doesn't seem to act the same with the info is pulled from a pivot table.  Note, I'm not looking for a timeline slicer in a pivot table.  Any other suggestions for making a project timeline from a table that is not chronological?.

    Hi,

Sorry for the trouble caused at your end.

Per your description, when I tested at our end by using the dates which are not in chronological order and inserting the timeline chart, the dates are arranged in a chronological way by default.

But changing the Axis type to Text axis will have the same representation as to the data selected:

Click on the X-axis> Right-click> Format axis> Axis options> Text axis.

Appreciate your patience and understanding. Have a good day and stay safe 😊

    Best Regards,

    Chitrahaas

I go through the post carefully. there are some Timeline template that may help you build the timeline quickly, you Can find them in File>New>type Timeline in Search bar

Additionally, I’d like to know how do you create the timeline in screenshot? here is a third party article that may help you: How to Create Timeline Chart in Excel Quickly and Easily

    Hi,

No need, I've done the test again by placing the dates in the middle of the data:

Does the date have to be in the left-most column?
