Cannot open ASPX file in SharePoint Online Office 365 group connected Team site

I have a need to be able to open an ASPX file stored in a document library.

I created two Team sites. I used all the default settings on the first site. On the second site, I configured it to not be connected to an Office 365 group.

I can store the ASPX file in the document library of each Team site without issue. However, when I click on the ASPX file stored in the document library on the Office 365 group-connected site, I'm prompted to download the file. When I click on the file in the non-Office 365 groups connected Team site, it opens the file without issue.

What is so different about these two sites that would cause this difference in behavior?

    Hi Jim Naroski,

Thank you for posting your question in this community. From your description, you found that the ASPX file cannot be opened successfully in the SharePoint site which it connected with an Office 365 group.

According to this article about Types of files that cannot be added to a list or library, .aspx file can be uploaded successfully to a SharePoint document library, but you need to enable Custom Script of the site . And the custom script is blocked for the SharePoint site with Office 365 groups.

Hence, you need to enable the custom script of the site with Office 365 group by using PowerShell command to achieve it.

    For your information:

To allow custom script on SharePoint sites with PowerShell command.

    Best regards,

    Dihao
