Importing Excel Spreadsheet Into Dynamics 365 and SharePoint

I have tried to import an Excel Spreadsheet Into Dynamics 365 and SharePoint and I continue to get an error that says that the specified file format is not valid in SharePoint, and I get the following error for Dynamics 365:

The import file does not have the format that Dynamics 365 uses to map the data to Dynamics 365 fields. It is possible some hidden sheets that the system uses have been modified or corrupted. Try again with a file exported from Dynamics 365.

I have changed the file format in different ways, including trying cvs format with UTF 8, windows cvc, etc.

I also downloaded a template from Dynamics 365 and copied a sample data on the spreadsheet template, but for some reason it said that it imported the records and when I search for the imported records it shows one with just the first name and the last name.

There isn't any guidance on what the actual format is needed.

    Hi Anibal,

Thanks for providing the information and screenshot with us, regarding to your issue, based on my experience and research, ActiveX components will not work in Google Chrome and Microsoft Edge, but you may try to use it with Internet Explorer.  You may follow the steps below:

On Internet Explorer go to Settings> Select Internet Options> Open the Security tab> Select the Trusted sites> Add your SharePoint site to this zone> Reduce the Security level to Medium-low>****Restart Internet Explorer

You can refer this article: Fix most common issues with SharePoint Import Spreadsheet functionality

    Hi Anibal,

Thanks for the updates. Have you tried to import other workbooks to a new site in such a way, this will help to know if the issue is related to the workbook.

Additionally, there is an additional option for you if you would like to import Excel spreadsheet to a list in SharePoint online. you may find steps in detail in the article: Export an Excel table to SharePoint.

    Regards,

    Clark

Hi Gloria, if you read my last post you will notice that I had made the exact observation you are mentioning on your answer. The screenshot I sent shows that I tried it with Internet Explorer following those instructions and that it did not work. I also indicated that neither Edge nor Chrome allow for ActiveX.

Please review my post again and let me know if there is any other solution.

I already did it using IE and the screenshot is the result. It did not work.

    Thanks,

Thank you for your quick response. I am including a screenshot of the error we are getting while importing an Excel file. I used IE because SharePoint requires ActiveX to import an Excel File. I enabled all ActiveX related settings and scripts.

Couldn't use Edge nor Chrome (No way to turn on ActiveX)

    1. The format is .xlsx
    2. The issue occurs with .xlsx  and .csv

    Hi Anibal,

Sorry for the inconvenience it may have caused.

Recent improvements in SharePoint Online have removed the limitations on types of files that can be added. There are currently no known types of files that cannot be added.

The following types of files can be uploaded to SharePoint in a web browser or using the sync app, but they won't work unless the site allows you to run custom script. By default, custom script is blocked on user-created sites that have Microsoft 365 groups. If you're a global admin or SharePoint admin in your organization, see Allow or prevent custom script to learn how to change the custom script settings.

If your admin allows custom script on a site, you need "Add and Customize Pages" permission (part of the Design and Full Control permission levels) to run the script in the file types listed above. For more info about permissions, see Understanding permission levels in SharePoint.

For the list of file names restricted by the sync app, see Restrictions and limitations when you sync files and folders.

If this is not your case, to further check the scenario, we would like to collect some information:

    1. What is the specific format of the Excel file?
    2. Does the issue occur on all Excel files? Or just this certain one?
    3. To troubleshoot that the problem is related to a specific document library, please try to do a test in other libraries.
    4. Please take a screenshot of the error message about “the specified file format is not valid in SharePoint” and share it with us.

For Dynamics 365, as our forum focus on how to deal with the out-of-box issue of Office 365, we are really sorry for couldn't provide a better suggestion for you. We sincerely recommend you raise this in Microsoft Dynamics 365 Community Forum, which is the official forum for Microsoft Dynamics 365. Experts there would conduct in-depth research on the problem you met and can provide you with more professional help.

    Appreciate your understanding.

    Best regards,

    Madoc
