How to Remove "Line Numbers"

I have a Word document that has been through many iterations and revisions by multiple people. It is now finalized, but there are "line numbers" to the left margin. These are not typical line numbers, and I am unable to get rid of them in the usual "line number" way. They seem somehow embedded to the text.

I have found that if I go to Style and Clear all the formatting, the numbers appear with a strike-through, and can be erased by going to "Accept All Changes." Unfortunately, of course, that completely messes up all of the formatting of the paper.

Any ideas on how to get rid of those numbers without messing up the format???

Thanks!

Possibly the line numbers are in a text box anchored to the header. Double-click in the header area to access the header pane. Then click in the left margin to see whether a text box is selected. If so, you can delete it.

How about, before clearing the formatting, turn off Track Changes.

Track Changes is a great tool to use so that you can, well, “track” what changes are made during the development of a document. In some parts of your document, however, you don’t particularly care if Word keeps track of what is changing. In those instances it would be nice to turn off the feature for selected areas of the document. While Word doesn’t allow you to do this, there are some workarounds you can try to achieve the same desired result.
