Microsoft Word: Remove unwanted line placed above table

Whenever I add a table in MS Word I get an extra line above the table that cannot be deleted.  I have tried fooling around with choosing different table styles in the "Table Design" tab - but nothing gets rid of the mysterious line above the table.  As far as I know it's just this one Word Document that has this issue.

    Hi Lexi,

Thanks for reaching out to Microsoft Community. I'm Jen, an Independent Advisor and a Microsoft user like you.

Try clicking the ¶ button on the Home tab to turn on nonprinting characters so you can see the paragraph mark there, then select the paragraph mark and press the Delete key.

Let me know if this works.

The screen captures shows a table using two columns and one row.  Non-printable characters are displayed.  The line is always with the table and cannot be deleted.

Can you show us a screen shot, or send me a copy of the document, referencing this thread in the covering email message, and I will investigate the issue.
