PowerPoint slides not advancing automatically

I'm trying to set up my slides to advance automatically so a user won't have to click to advance.  Under "Transitions" and "Advance Slide" I have the checkbox marked with the proper timing of each slide.  Under "Slide Show" I have the checkbox marked under "Use Timings."  I've even tried several times to record the slideshow, in case there was some issue with the timings.  With all that being said, when I go back to play the Slideshow, there are about 3 different slides in my presentation that completely ignore the slide timings and linger on the screen long after the narration is over.  The time they linger is completely inconsistent.  Sometimes they'll linger an extra 3 seconds when I play the slideshow; other times, it can be as much as 12 seconds.  I cannot figure out how to fix this.  I've tried re-saving the file, rebooting PowerPoint, even exporting it as a video, but nothing works.  Any advice?

    Hi there,

I hope this answer helps as it took me weeks to finally get this to work!

My issue happened when I inserted an mp3 recording to play on each slide alongside each animation. What i wound up having to do was to click on each mp3 in the animation pain and click on “effect options.”  In there there’s a part that says, “advance after current slide” which is the default.  Instead you have to click the next option “advance after ___ slides” and choose that option. It will automatically fill the number 1 in for you. Even though it is saying the EXACT same thing as the previous option, this option is the only one that works for slides with heavy animation. Do this for all your mp3’s.

Let me know if this helps you.

    I have found a solution.

I was struggling with this problem for a couple of hours and couldn't figure out what was wrong.  Apparently, there is a bug in MS PP.  Sometimes the audio files that are recorded get extended for no clear reason.  Some slides will be normal while others may add one minute or five minutes to the recording.  So this means that there is a long pause before the slide advances based on the recorded audio length.

Solution:  Trim the audio files by selecting the audio, clicking on trim and trimming. Then you have to change the automatic transition time that was set for the slide in the transition pain.  (Far right)

Once again, a bug in an expensive MS product is causing me to waste HOURS of time.  Now I have to go through all my slides (well over a hundred) and check every single audio file for this bug.  Incredible that they haven't fixed this yet as I am sure I am not the only person who has had the problem!

Hello, I have some possible solutions as to how this issue can be fixed.

If your slides have animations that require a click to advance them, the slide will not automatically advance until all the animations set to "click to advance" have completed. If you have any animations, set them up so that they occur based on your own timings, which you can modify in the Animations Pane of PowerPoint. If all animations are not set to "advance on click", then any timings set in the Transition Pane should work as intended.

You also should not need to use set timings and narration to set timings for your presentation, unless you want to add narrations to your presentation.

Hopefully this provides a solution or some useful information for your issue.

Hi, I have the exact same issue as mentioned previously. My transition durations are less then 3 seconds, and I have made sure the "After" field in each slide has its time saved from when I Recorded my slide show. No matter how many times I re-record, insert audio files to play automatically, adjust transition duration times and advance slide times I do not see a change in timing when I play the presentation. I have even tried to enter 2 seconds to test advance slide time to see if an affect will take place and so far I have seen no change, even when I created another file to test the function of advance slide. Can I please get help with this?

    Thanks

Thank you so much. Your advice helped me finally get over this issue of timing. I had to use the timing pane in animations to resolve this and not the Transitions pane.
