Installing Microsoft Office on my Windows 7 PC

I attend the University of Victoria and I would like to download the microsoft office application on my PC at home. This PC runs windows 7, my personal favourite windows OS. But the microsoft office apps say I need to be running windows 10.

Is there a windows 7 version of the office tools? I know they have comparability with iOS, so it would make sense if they also accommodated windows 7 and 8 users.

Microsoft Office 2016 was the last version of Office that worked on Windows 7 ... but, like all versions of Microsoft Office, it isn't free.

As far as I can tell, however, you can use the free online Microsoft Office apps on Windows 7.  You don't download and install anything.  You just use them by going to Office.com.  See https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/microsoft-365/free-office-online-for-the-web(scroll to the bottom).
