    Hi Bob Thank you.

I am a graphic designer and I use Adobe Creative Suite, PowerPoint, Keynote and Google sheet.

I got stuck making a word doc for multiple employees. Hence trying to lock the document elements like any normal desktop publishing software. Hey Microsoft your word software makes no sense. From deleting pages to lock images. What a time waster.

    Best Regards

Sorry, but what is described by Del Lyn will not do as you describe. Locking the anchor of a floating object does not prevent the object from being moved, it simply prevents the anchor from being moved... IOW, prevents the object from being anchored to a different paragraph.

There is no provision for what you are looking to do in most word processing programs. That's a capability found predominantly in desktop publishing [page layout] software.

The only thing you can do [without programming] - even in a template - is to place the content in the Header/Footer, but even then the user can access & move it.

Assuming the document is not to be modified send a PDF version.

The heavy-handed way to lock content is to protect it for forms (Tools>Protect Document>Protect document for>Forms). Unfortunately that mostly locks down the document entirely unless you add unprotected sections and/or formfields for text entry.

If you have access to Word for Windows, you can set editable areas of a document by selecting them, then choosing Review>Restrict Editing>Allow only this type of editing in the document, then select No changes (Read only). This capability hasn't made it to the Mac version yet.

As an alternative, you can lock items in place by editing the XML. Here's my article on how to do that: OOXML Hacking: Locking Graphics. The first part of the article is about PowerPoint, scroll down to find the section about Word. The nice thing about this method is that the document remains completely editable, you just can't select the locked items.

    Hi Sreich ,
I am Lyn, an Independent Advisor and a fellow Microsoft user. Here to assist you in solving an issue.
Just to clarify, are you trying to "lock anchor" these photos and text boxes in a page without these moving when you add texts on the page?

If so, please follow the following:
    Select an object.
On the Ribbon’s Format tab > Arrange group and choose Position > More Layout Options > Position tab > (Optional) Set the position of an object precisely using controls in this dialog.

Under Options, select the Lock Anchor check box.
Click OK to close the Advanced Layout dialog and then click OK to close the Advanced Layout dialog.

Text now flows according to the settings you made, and the object is anchored to the position you selected. Although you can still drag the object to new positions on the page, it won’t move when you add or delete text.
