Navigation pane is broken - "Search paused"

Hello - whenever I search for a doc I am working in utilising the navigation pane, the search results disappear, and it automatically shows.

"Word paused so you can edit your document".

This never used to occur, I believe my navigation pane is broken or corrupted - is there a way to fix this?

This is extremely frustrating as I use the navigation pane quite often in 100+ page documents for work and has resulted in accidentally deleting words when trying to search.

Which specific release? Look next to the "About Word" button:

    Hi Stefan,

Yes - these are documents I am editing for word but it never used to automatically switch to edit mode when clicking enter.    I use the function when working with defined terms in 100+ page docs - is there a way to stop this glitch?

    Thanks

    Hi Yee,

Apart from clicking the arrow keys, we could also press the up and down on the keyboard and then press Enter to select the item. Once we press Enter, it will lead us to the one we choose and the item will be in the yellow background.  Per our experience and test, CTRL+F is to start the navigation pane instead of choosing the item one by one.

In order to assist you more accordingly, we would like to collect the following information:

    1. Your Office subscription screenshot via click File>Account>Product Information. In order to protect your privacy, please help us mask your PII, such as email address.
    2. May we know have you tried to update or repair your Office?
    3. If we misunderstand your concern, you could upload your screen recording to OneDrive or Google Drive and then share the link in public. Reference:

Upload and save files and folders to OneDrive

    Share OneDrive files and folders

    Best Regards,

    Sandro

    Hi Yee,

Thanks for posting back. We are glad to continue to communicate with you.

According to your last reply, we kindly assume you refer to up and down arrows on the right. In our test, if we click it, it will lead us to the search result one by one. And as the screenshot shown below, we search “test”, there are 6 results in this document. May we know what do you mean about more than one item?

If we misunderstand your concern, you could upload your screen recording to OneDrive or Google Drive and then share the link in public. In order to protect your privacy, please upload the file without private content. Reference:

Upload and save files and folders to OneDrive

    Share OneDrive files and folders

Additionally, may we know did you try the above suggestions in my first reply? You could share the result at your convenience. If they don’t work, you could provide the information we mentioned to help us narrow down the issue.

    Best Regards,

    Sandro

    Hi Yee,

Welcome to community forum. It’s my pleasure to assist you.

According to your description, we kindly assume your concern is the abnormal behavior of navigation pane in Word. To deliver better service, we tested at our end but we couldn’t reproduce this issue in the latest version (2007, current channel)

It’s available for us to click View>check the box before Navigation Pane to type the key word to search. And press CTRL+F also worked. Reference: Use the Navigation pane in Word

Here are some suggestions for you:

    1. Considering we didn’t meet this issue in the latest version, we would like to suggest you update to the latest version to check whether it worked. Reference: Install Office updates

    2. Run safe mode to check whether it caused by the third-party add-ins.

    3. Perform clean boot the determine if it caused by the background programs.

    1. If the issue still persists, you could online repair your Office.

If the above solutions don’t work at your end, would you mind providing the following information for our troubleshooting?

1.Your Office subscription screenshot via click File>Account>Product Information. In order to protect your privacy, please help us mask your PII, such as email address.

    1. Will this issue happen to the specific file? If so, what if copy and paste the content to a new file?
    2. When did this issue occur? Did you run any updates recently?
    3. In order to understand your situation in a better way, could you please share your error message screenshot? You could click this icon to upload the image.

Wish you have a good day!

    Best Regards,

    Sandro
