Extra Characters in URL link

Hi,

Why do extra characters appear in a URL link and is there a way to correct it/stop it from happening?

I issue an email communication with a link to an outside URL.  When a copy of the email is forwarded to me from the recipient the website URL is often extended by additional characters and looks messy.  Is there a way to stop this from happening?

If you're just concerned that it "looks messy" in the document, you can edit the hyperlink (right-click the hyperlink and choose Edit Hyperlink, or select the hyperlink and press Ctrl+K). Change the Text to Display box at the top of the dialog, but leave the full URL in the Address box at the bottom.

Hello ColettePOL, I'm Jan, a Microsoft User like you.

I have found that some characters are utilized by URLs for a special use in defining their syntax that is why extra characters appear in URL links.

To solve your problem you would need to decode the value in your receiving code by typing it instead of copy-pasting it to your web browser. You can check out this thread link for instructions on decoding the URL link.

However, you cannot stop extra characters from appearing to the links because the latter is required to make a valid URL, and also for security purposes.

Hope this helps. Let me know if you need anything else.

    Best Regards,

    Jan
