Cant modify Office 365 excel graph

Hello

So, I am new to office 365, and I have been trying to complete some school tasks in online excel.

For that I need to modify the graphs design, and add a trend line and extract an equation from it.

I can do none of these things.

In some tutorials I have watched, also done in online excel, it was said to double click the graph and that a format chart window appears from the right.

For me, it does not. Double clicking the chart doesnt do anything. Right clicking doesnt do anything usefull either.

Secondly, everywhere i looked/read, having selected the graph, should make icons appear on its top right corner(plus and a brush or something), that would then allow me to go to the respective menus to modify the graph/add new things.

For me, selecting the graph doesnt do anything. At all.

Nothing I select in the file in any way allows me into graph format/design, its as if its completely missing.

The sole thing selecting the graph does, is that it creates new "graph" tab on the top.

This has options for changing the graph type, swaping axis, adding names, and nothing else. No "format" option or tab or anything of the sort is shown.

Right now, doing the things like changing markers, adding trends, adding text boxes to chart etc. are impossible, since these options are just straight up missing.

I have no idea what i am doing wrong, but i must be missing something critical.

I am using student A1 licence that i was given by my school.

Throughout I have been using only the scatter graph type, to test (and fail) to find these options.

All was done in google chrome browser

Does anyone have a theory as to what could be the cause of this, or what the solution could be?

Are these assignments you are getting set up specifically for Office Online?  The Online <cr>applets are dumbed down versions of the desktop applications.  You simply may not be able to do what you want in the online apps ...

    .

Can you provide us with sample data, or upload a simple example file so we can see exactly what data you are working with.

    .

Could you provide us with links to the articles you are looking at, once again so we are (literally) on the same page as you are.

    .

For example, this trendline page implies that Excel Online does NOT support trendlines:

    .

Upload Example - Trouble Shooting - Share Personal OneDrive File (not Business OneDrive)

    .

Trouble shooting problems in files can be like a visit to the dentist, a long, slow painful process of us trying to “extract” the clues needed to recognize the problem in a back and forth flow of questions and answers so that we can come up with a / “the” solution.

    .

Often it is faster and easier for everyone if we have a “sample file” get "hands on", to look at, and to “play with”.

    .

This next link provides some tips on setting up a sample file and specific instructions for uploading and "sharing" it for us to access:

Yes, the Office 365 Education A1 is misleading, since it only gives access to the online <cr>applets.  So while it is 365, it is NOT desktop.

I suspected it may be something like this.

Since I dont really like the online version anyway, I think I will go with other solution I have overlooked previously.

I have desktop office on my laptop, so everything should be fine there.

The tasks I have to do and the licence are separate, It was just that the school was really hyping the fact you can get it (despite the fact that you can get all the same apps for free), so i thought I should at least attempt this.

I feel like I should mention that official windows tutorials for excel state that they are also for office 365, along other versions. Although that is maybe not intentional.

Thank you for your willingness to answer, but it seems to be better, instead of trying to solve this problem, for me to just use software I am more familiar with (I just kind of forgott my laptop exists, appologies).

That makes the underlying problem solved..
