Team id and corresponding group id

We know that whenever we create a team, there is a group that gets created in the background. After going through official docs and Graph APIs, it looks like that the team id and the corresponding group's id always match. Is it true? Also, I would like to draw the attention to some corner cases and would need someone to verify once if the proposition still holds:

  1. Creating a team from an existing group
  2. Creating a new team with a name which is already taken by a group

Also, please provide if there is any official doc which could have provided the confirmation that I was looking for, but missed. Cheers!

Hello Ankit Shubham,

Yeah, the group id of a team is the same with the one of associated Microsoft 365 group. They're same thing but in different application scopes, as you can check in admin center:

We can create a team from a Microsoft 365 group which hasn't been provisioned with Teams, or from scratch (the name must be unique)

You could view this article to see more in depth: Microsoft 365 Groups and Microsoft Teams.

Best Regards,

Anna
