Pink background to text

Hi, hope you can help. When I open my Word document the background is pink - some of it is solid pink, some broad pink and white horizontal stripes, some broad pink and narrow white stripes. I use a MacBook. I can get rid of the pink by choosing 'no markup', but I'd like to know why they are there wad why they are different within the same document.

What's shown there most probably was applied using the Text Highlight Color tool in the Font group on the Home tab of the Ribbon. Or it may have been applied by including it in a Style applied to the text. What appear to be white lines actually is where the Highlight Color doesn't "take" due to Line Spacing greater than Single - Unlike Paragraph Shading, Highlight Color only applies to the height of the text, itself, not to the space between the lines or between paragraphs.

If a Style was uses you can remove the Highlight Color by modifying the Style to exclude the attribute or by applying a different Style.

Another option is to select the text, click the expander [ ] on the Text Highlight Color tool & select No Color. [If the Highlight Color was applied using a Style, though, this method will not modify the Style.]

From your description what you are seeing is Markup in the document due to changes having been made while the Track Changes feature was active... It has absolutely nothing to do with Page Color. Those changes have not yet been resolved so they will be displayed whenever the document is opened. To remove the Markup you must:

    1. Make sure Track Changes is turned Off
    2. Accept or Reject all Changes that have been Tracked
    3. Delete the Comments that have been inserted

If the markup needs to be retained choose either No Markup as you've been doing or choose Simple Markup while working in the document. Note that neither removes the Markup, they simply hide it so it is less distracting.

If that doesn't prove to be the case please go to Word> About Microsoft Word in the main menu to determine the present Version of your Office software. Included that in your reply as well as the version of macOS you're currently using.

    Also, please provide the following:

    • Is the issue in one specific document or are all affected?
    • Is this a new behavior not previously evident in the same document(s)?
    • A screen shot of the affected  area or share a document o a cloud & provide a link to it in your reply.

Without this fundamental information any "suggestions" are merely guesswork.

Thanks for replying, but this isn't my problem. I haven't put the background colour in at any time. It just appears when I re-open the word document.
