readability statistics still do not appear in word 365;  I've tried all the little hints and fixes suggested other than actually reinstalling an earlier version of word.  WHY???

An important note from this document

    https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/office/get-your-document-s-readability-and-level-statistics-85b4969e-e80a-4777-8dd3-f7fc3c8b3fd2?ui=en-us&rs=en-us&ad=us

reads that "You must correct or Ignore all errors found in the document before the readability statistics will display." Have you tried that?

I came to this thread completely frustrated because I wasn't getting that Read and Stats pop-up I was remembering from Word 10. After clicking one of those instruction links someone else replied to your issue with, I realized I had completely forgotten that you have to go through all the recommendations first.

Once you click on the "Spelling & Grammer" 'button' or icon that you added to your ribbon through File>Options>Customize Ribbon, a 'Editor' column should pop-up on the right hand side of your workspace. This 'Editor' contains every suggestion Word has for your document. You need to ignore or correct every single issue listed under both the 'Corrections' and 'Refinements' headings before Readability stats will display. Every number must be turned to a green check mark. Readability statistics will automatically process and display as soon as you correct your last issue.

Another note, you might have to go back to sections previously corrected. I just went through this process for an entire novel. As I worked through the headings, I would complete a section, move onto another, and then suddenly find that the previously checked section had gained more issues.

    Hope this helps someone! ♡

really?  OK, one solution involved going into "options" and customizing the ribbon to include "spelling and grammar."  That didn't work.  Start things with f7.  That doesn't work.  Launch the review with f7 and scroll to the bottom and there the readability statistics will pop up.  Not true.   Under Editor, click on "settings" and check "show readability statistics."  does not work.

you got anything else?  This is so dumb.

all that done;  the options actually are different from what is described in the microsoft guide.  Makes no difference.  No readability statistics produced.  This is quite lame.

I get readability statistics in Word in Microsoft 365 by using vba commands to activate the previous version's editor.

See: Classic Spell Check Dialog - Macro to use classic dialog rather than Editor

(Actually both are still available with the macro).

I can confirm that they are not showing up when I use the Editor without the macro. You can use the Feedback mechanism in Word to complain about this to the developers. (They do not see what is posted here.)

    I am using Version 2004.

If you do feedback, you may want to refer them to this thread.

I would happily send many frowns, but for all "help" options I get the message that "the service required to use this feature" is turned of by "my administrator."  Since I think I AM the administrator, I am confused by this.  And cannot find information about how to turn the required service back on.  Sheesh.
