OficeClickToRun.exe Slowing Down Both My PCs

Hello

I have two PCs - one an Acer Aspire laptop and the other an HP desktop - both with the same problem.

I noticed both PCs had become very sluggish and so I looked at Task Manager and found that something called OfficeClickToRun.exe is using close to 50% of the CPU and 11.6 MB. Task Manager also says that its power usage is very high.

I can click on OfficeClickToRun.exe and select End Task. It closes and my PC stops being sluggish. However, OfficeClickToRun.exe reappears in Task Manager every time I either open an Office application (I have Microsoft Office 365) or every time the PC is restarted. I have no idea how to resolve this issue and would like some help.

For your information Windows is up-to-date on both the PCs.

I have tried the following solutions but they have not helped.

  • I have repaired Office.
  • I have used Office's online repair.
  • I have restored my PCs to an earlier date priory to this problem.

Please when helping note I'm not the most IT literate person so will need clear instructions for anything that's recommended.

I have uninstalled and reinstalled Microsoft Office 365 on my PC. Task manager is reporting the following about ClickToRun.exe.

    CPU: 46-50%

    Memory: 8.1 MB

    Power Usage: Very High

Are these figures normal or excessive?

I can’t say the PC is sluggish at the moment so I have no idea whether this is normal or abnormal.

My laptop wouldn’t even let me uninstall Office so I’ve ended up resetting that PC.

What was the result when you reset the PC? If you have the same result after resetting the PC, I suggest contacting the Office 365 chat support team to assist you and help you with extensive troubleshooting on your account.

    Hi,

Thank you for posting this to the Community Forum. I hope you're doing good today despite having an OfficeClickToRun.Exe performance issue on both of your PCs. Let's try to get to the bottom of this concern.

Normally, Office ClicktoRun.Exe will run every time you restart your PC and open an Office application. However, this should not be the reason why your PC will have a slow performance issue. Microsoft Office ClickToRun Service this is the other name of  ClickToRun.Exe. The purpose of this service is to manage three things:resource coordination, background streaming, and the system integration of Microsoft Office products. This service needs to run smoothly. You can try to uninstall and reinstall the Office suite and check for improvements.

If the troubleshooting steps didn't help, you can contact the Office 365 chat support team to assist you with extensive troubleshooting on your account.

If you have other concerns, let us know.

    Stay Safe.

    Bob
