Excel - Personal Budget Template

When I create a copy in the same document of the personal budget template as sheet number 2, I have two sheets now 1 and 2.

In each sheet I can change the income and expenses and the bar graph changes automatically for each sheets given values. The problem comes when the expenses or income values change on sheet 1 which changes the pie graph as well, the pie graph on sheet 2 also changes even though none of the values inputed for income and expenses on sheet 2 have changed.

Its like the the pie graph from sheet 2 is connected to sheet 1 when none of sheet 2's information matches sheet 1's.

How do I fix this? I called Microsoft and they could not fix it on their end either. They had a 2016 version and I have the updated 2020 version and both had this issue. They submitted something to their developers and have recommended me to this to see if I was able to get a possible fix.

    Hi Daniel2024,

Based on your description, after making a copy of the Personal Budget in the same workbook as sheet2, when you change in the sheet1, the pie chart in sheet will automatically changed.

I tested on my side, and the result was same as yours.

And I found the cause of this problem: there is a hidden sheet called "Chart Data" in the template, and the pie chart is based on this sheet. When you make a copy for the pie chart, the copied pie chart is also based on this hidden "Chart Data" sheet.

So when you change the data in the original sheet, these changes will be reflected in this hidden "Chart Data" sheet which means that both the original pie chart and the copied pie chart will change together with the change of this hidden "Chart Data" sheet.

To solve this problem, you need to define new name for the copied sheet and then edit the formula in it. however, this process is very complicated and loses the meaning of the template which is to make people more convenient.

So we recommend that you could create a new workbook based on the template instead of making a copy for the template in the same workbook.

    Thanks for understanding.

    Best regards,

    Jazlyn
