Hi all,

I am trying to import data using the 'get and transform data' tab in Excel, but none of the different options ('from web', 'from table') seem to work. Each time excel gives the following error

Unexpected error: Container exited unexpectedly with code 0xFFFFFFFF. PID: 11128.

Used features: (none).

Details:

Microsoft.Mashup.Evaluator.Interface.ErrorException: Container exited unexpectedly with code 0xFFFFFFFF. PID: 11128.

I have a completely up to date computer as well as excel version, and I have tried the suggestions of a different forum with the same issues: https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/msoffice/forum/all/unexpected-error-container-exited-unexpectedly/daf4936b-bc05-4827-b7e9-fda763a7cf07?rtAction=1592899241942

I am not sure how to proceed. Any tips would be very much appreciated!

    Hi AnaisvdH,

Thanks for sharing updates with us. and sorry for the bad experience caused by this issue.

Please try to remove the Power Query Cache (delete the cache folder in the Power Query) and check the outcome:

Path for Power Query Cache folder: C:\Users\xxxxx\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Office\16.0\PowerQuery

Also, please try to Create a new user accountunder your Windows 10. See if it still with the same error message.

If issue persist, to narrow down your issue could you please try to test in another machine and see the behaviour also please confirm does issue happen to other user in your organization it will help for us to narrow down whether it's related to account or computer.

I appreciate your time and understanding.

    Best Regards

    Waqas Muhammad

    Hi AnaisvdH,

Thanks for posting back and sorry for my late reply.

It seems problem may be caused by windows system files damage in your machine. However, it works from another machine.

Please try to use the System File Checker  tool to repair missing or corrupted system files and see if any improvement.

Regarding to power query cache folder location please refer to my screenshot below and see you can find location to delete power query cache folder.

Meanwhile, based on my search, some similar problems were solved by Perform System File Checker (SFC) scan please confirm did you try step as you mention link in your thread.

I appreciate your time and understanding.

    Best Regards

    Waqas Muhammad

    Hi AnaisvdH,

As per your description, based on my test it works as expected from my side using power query from Table/Range or from web.

    From Table:

    From web:

To narrow down your issue could you , please test if the issue will happen to all files including the newly created files, and try to open Excel in safe mode, then check the outcome.

If still can’t work, please try to  repair an Office applicationto fix the problem.

Meanwhile, please try the Windows clean boot. This can determine whether the case issue occurred by the other programs or services in your computers.

If the issue persists, please provide a screenshot of the Product Information including version and build number, please mask your email address.

I appreciate your time and understanding.

    Best Regards

    Dear Waqas,

I can not find the power query cache folder. I can get to this part C:\Users\xxxxx\AppData\Local\Microsoft, but then there is only one folder called 'Windows' which is empty. I tried creating another account, but also for this account the error occurred. This problem does not occur on other computers of my organization, only mine.

    Dear Waqas,

Thank you for the fast reply! I tried all of your suggestions (repair an Office application, windows clean boot, open excel in safe mode) but errors still occurred. I have also completely reinstalled Office, but that did not work either. I have added the requested screenshot below. I hope you can help me with how I should proceed.
