MS Office 365 on Windows Server 2016 R2

I'm interested in creating a new virtual server (Windows Server 2016 r2) via my provider (Rackspace).

My plan is to host 8 office workers who will gain access via Terminal Services or RDC.

All 8 currently have a Office 365 business accounts under one umbrella.

Do I have the ability to install the office 365 suite (e.g. Outlook, Word, Excel) on the server and allow them to remote in and run their respective Office products?  Or does this require a separate volume licensing version of Office 365?

Or would it be better to purchase (savings wise and installation ease) Office 2016 or Office 2019 with VL for the users?

Thanks for any direction or help you can provide.

-Morris.

    Hi Morris,

    Welcome to the Answers community.

According to the system requirement, Microsoft 365 is supported on Windows Server 2016.

As you have a Microsoft 365 Apps subscription (*formerly Office 365 Business)*and wants to install Office on Windows Server 2016, you must assign each user a valid license so they can use Microsoft 365 services.

It’s up to you whether you want to buy Microsoft 365 subscription or volume license. It depends on your need. To use any of these services, as user must be assigned a license.

If you have any question, please let me know. Have a nice day and stay safe 😊

    Regards,

    Neha
