Word 365 MAC superscript shortcut doesn't work

Hi, I've got some problems with MS Word 365 on a Mac. I'd like to use a shortcut to apply superscript formatting. But cmd+shift+"+" as described on https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/office/keyboard-shortcuts-in-word-95ef89dd-7142-4b50-afb2-f762f663ceb2#bkmk_edittext2mac doesn't work. (Also irritating: the shortcut for subscript formatting is cmd+”+” and not cmd+”=”.)

Does anyone know a solution to this problem?

Best regards,

Gerald Hönle

    Hello,

    unfortunately that doesn't work.

    • CMD + Shift + "+" : no effect
    • CMD + "+" : subscript (not superscript!)
    • CMD + Shift + "0" (equal to CMD + "=") : no effect

Everything is diffrent to the HELP-File in Word. The HELP-File has a wrong description.

    What can I do?

    Best regards,

    Gerald

I'm afraid there isn't much more I can suggest. I don't have access to a German keyboard & the prescribed shortcuts for the U.S. keyboard work as they should so I am not able to reproduce the issue.

Are you having problems with any other keyboard shortcuts or behaviors? If so the only thing I can think of is to verify your settings in System Preferences for Keyboard as well as Language & Region. There may be a conflict if you have Office installed in a different interface language.

Please note the 1st bullet point at the beginning of the Support Article to which you provided the link... It's now clear that you are not using a U.S. Keyboard Layout, so it stands to reason that the same combinations will not work for you.

That also explains why you have no +/= key... The German keyboard doesn't have one. On a U.S. keyboard that key is used for both sub & super: whether the Shift key is used to trigger upper register is the determining factor. I've never used a German layout before but you might try these combinations:

Superscript:   Command+✚ [using the key to the right of Ü]

Subscript:   Command+Shift+0 [the upper register of the zero key which is the equivalent of Command+〓]

If your installation is German perhaps using Help> Word Help to search for keyboard shortcuts will provide a list of those based on a German keyboard.

Another option is to go to the very bottom of the Article you cited & select German as the Language. I'm not sure of the translation but I believe it's indicating exactly what I wrote above:

    Hello Sandro,

thank you very much! But I can't find a key labeled as "+/=". This may be caused by a german keyboard (QUERTZ).

Which key do I have to press here?

    Best regards,

    Gerald

    Hi Gerald,

Thanks for posting in our Community Forum. It’s my pleasure to assist you.

In order to deliver a better service, we tested on our side:

If we press cmd+shift+”+/=” in the Typing Keys, we could achieve the superscript formatting as the following screenshot.

If we press cmd +”+/=” in the Typing Keys , we could achieve the subscript formatting as the following screenshot.

If you still meet the same issue, could you please provide us your version via Word>About Word. We are testing in the latest product version 16.38. Please first make sure you are in the same version.

    Have a good day!

    Best Regards,

    Sandro
