Hello - I mistakenly added a redundant OneDrive folder to my Finder Favorites on a MacBook Pro running OS Catalina. How do I remove one of the two folders?

    Hi S. Schindler,

    Thanks for the update.

When you say, “I still have duplicate files”, do you mean you still have both, shared with me folder synced and the files which you moved from Shared section to your own library to change the ownership.

Are these both locations syncing to your mac and do you want to remove shared with me location from synced folder on your mac? If so, please follow the steps below:

    1. Right-click the OneDrive icon (blue cloud icon) on task bar, select Preferences.
    2. In the Account tab, you’ll see the name of the shared folder, next to it, there are two options: Choose Folders and Stop Sync.
    3. Select Stop Sync.

If you click Stop sync, the shared folder will not sync anymore.

If you no longer want or need access to the folder that has been shared with you, you can remove it from the browser as well:

    1. In the OneDrive website, from the left side navigation, select Shared.
    2. Select the folder you want to remove from the Shared list, then select Remove from shared list.

Reference: Remove items from the Shared list

If I misunderstood the scenario, please correct me.

    Regards,

    Neha

Thank you for your response, Neha. I was able to remove the folder from Favorites in the Finder per your directions. However, this alone doesn't solve my problem.

I originally "synced" files shared with me from an employee who is leaving the organization. I then realized that the "ownership" remained with the leaving employee. As a result, I subsequently "moved" the same files to my OneDrive. This changed the ownership to me, which is what I was hoping for.

I still have duplicate files. How do I locate and remove the synced folder that "remains in the original location" on my Mac?

    Thank you again.

    Steve

    Hi S. Schindler,

When we start syncing OneDrive, the OneDrive folder “OneDrive-company name” starts appearing in sidebar in Finder window. May I confirm if you want to stop syncing OneDrive which will eventually remove the folder link from the sidebar, or you want to remove a folder that you’ve added from OneDrive sync folder? Just wanted to confirm this information to avoid any confusion.

If you want to remove a folder normally from Finder sidebar, then drag the item’s icon out of the sidebar until you see the remove sign (x).

Note*: The link to the item in the sidebar disappears, but the item remains in its original location on your Mac.*
