Uninstall Office 365 updates results in error code 30183-27 (400)

Well, after delaying the inevitable, I went ahead and restarted my computer, installing the latest updates for Microsoft Office 365. When I restarted my computer and opened up an excel file I was working on, the file was all jumbled and there were new formulas where there weren't previous formulas. The formulas were jumbled and only showed the #?NAME!# thing.

I managed to revert to an earlier version and corrected all of the errors, but I am worried that all of my excel files will be like this. So, I thought I would just uninstall the latest updates, which are all awful by the way. For example, if I put in a formula for a single cell, why does excel fill in the formula for the rest of the column and then a little beyond the final line of data? Even more annoying is that you can't actually remove the formula in the unwanted cells because the formula is grayed out. There is an even more annoying light blue border around these cells reminding you that they are now locked and can't be touched.

I tried to revert to a previous version of excel, but when I followed the tutorials online AND used the OfficeDeploymentTool, I got the same error code. 30183-27 (400). I was told to check my internet connection, which is obviously fine since I am using it right now.

Searching for this error code results in the one thing that Google doesn't have an answer for.

How do I uninstall the latest updates and revert back to a previous version without getting the error code?

    Who uses Onedrive?

So updating Microsoft Office has no bearing on Excel files... a program in the office suite? Hmmm.... Funny that the files worked fine before the update and after the update they didn't. The only thing that changed was the update to the Office Suite.

I uninstalled everything and I am now trying to reinstall an earlier version. The trouble is, by uninstalling and reinstalling, I am now doomed to forever have the latest version, where Excel is broken and everything is automatically saved to my onedrive, which is beyond useless.

I have determined that the Office Deployment Tool does absolutely nothing. Not a thing.

So, question. Why not make this easier? Why not just have a website where all of the earlier versions are listed and have a link to each version to install or reinstall?

    Hi,

For Microsoft 365, we cannot uninstall the specific updates, in your case, if you want to revert back to an earlier version, you may need to uninstall the current installed Office suite, and then use ODT to deploy Office with specific version.

*I suggest you go to https://config.office.com/ to generate the configuration file.

There are some references which I hope can be helpful, and please feel free to let me know if there is any progress, I'll continue to help you.

    Hi,

If there is a later version installed on the device, we cannot install an earlier version by using ODT, so we need to uninstall the current version and start from the scratch.

However, in your case, you said that even you had configured to install an earlier version of Office, it still installed the latest version in the end, the reason may be that you did not turn off the automatic update, which caused Office to be updated to the latest version immediately after installation.

I can understand that constantly uninstalling and reinstalling is troublesome, but even if you successfully install an earlier version, you may lose a lot of functional and security updates in the future.

As we discussed before, the root cause could be that the update of Excel made changes to some formulas which caused problems with some incompatible formulas used in your workbooks, because the "greyed out formulas" and "blue border" things you were talking about are actually normal behaviors.

If you are tired of trying to roll back to the earlier version, I am still willing to do my best to help you solve the problem from the root, but we hope you can provide the screenshots of the problematic formulas and sample data to better reproduce your situation, that would be helpful for us to narrow down the issue.

Your understanding and cooperation will be highly appreciated, and if you have any ideas, I am willing to continue to assist you.

    Best Regards,

    Arck

    Hi,

Thanks for using Microsoft products and posting in the community, I'm glad to offer help.

According to your description, I think you used a function that can return a range results, which could explain the "grayed out formula" and "blue border".

As shown below, I put the formula in cell C1, these kinds of functions will automatically fill a range with the results, only the cell where the formula is entered (C1) can be edited, other filled cells cannot be edited or deleted (they are grayed out), and when you select any cell of the returned range, the whole range's border will turn blue.

In your case, you may use a formula that has changed in the new version of Excel, to better narrow down the cause, could you please provide the affected formula, screenshots of the raw data and the Product Information? It would be helpful for us to reproduce your situation, your understanding will be highly appreciated.

*Please note to mask your email address.

    Looking forward to your feedback.

    Best Regards,

    Arck
