Enter Key not working - Microsoft Word

In a Microsoft Word document with multiple segments, the Enter and Space keys did not operate as normal. Normally, the Enter key would invoke the paragraph, moving the cursor down to a new line. In my document this was not happening.

The cause seems to be the lack of a hard Enter between the end of the text and the Section (or Page) break. Using the Punctuation Viewer, I was able to determine that the Section Break was on the same line as my text. When I added a hard Enter after my text so that the Section Break was below my text, the Enter and Space keys worked properly. With the business document questions on this error, I suspect that the same Section or Page Break issue may be the cause of this issue.

Earlier, it has been reported that typing immediately above a section break may be slow. The workaround mentioned in some older threads is simple: just add an extra paragraph mark, by pressing Enter.

Note that you can remove the "excessive" paragraph later, when you have completed editing.
