Hi, can anyone help unfreeze an Excel worksheet without loosing data?

I've been working on an an Excel sheet (for 3 hours) without saving unfortunately. Excel is non-responsive.

I'm hoping there is a way to saved my work without losing everything?

Any help is much appreciated.

 Thanks Pat

    Hi Pat,

Sorry to hear about the issue. From your description, I understand the situation is that the Excel worksheet is frozen(it has no responding) and you want to save your work that you haven't saved.

Based on my experience and as far as I know, I'm afraid you will need to either wait for the worksheet to respond again or close and restart Excel, and if the worksheet is freezing for too long, I'm afraid you still need to close it so that Excel can go back to work. However the worksheet content is very likely to be lost. Really sorry for the trouble caused by this issue, I could fully understand the frustration.

In the meanwhile, I would like to share with you following suggestions which might help to see if you could find the unsaved worksheet:

1.If you have saved the Excel worksheet in previous but the last changes you did are not saved because Excel is not responding, you may try to recover the worksheet with the Document Recovery feature.

When you open Excel application again, see if you can find "Recovered" showing on the left side of the Start page and you can click "Show Recovered Files".

Or when you see the Document Recovery pane showing on the left side, check if you could find the workbook displaying under Available Files.

2.When Excel apps opens, you may also click File>Info>Manage Workbook>Recover Unsaved Workbooks, see if you could find your workbook. If you find it, select it and click Open and save it again.

Additionally, next time when you edit in workbooks, to avoid data losing, I recommend you save workbooks often (press Ctrl+S often) and always make backup for important files.

    Thanks for your understanding.

    Best Regards,

    Tina

Another way is to set the save feature to “on”

This will save the file to Microsoft IDrive
