Hello,

I have a user whose Microsoft Account is duplicated in Windows. We've tried multiple times to remove one of the accounts, but it will not go away. It prevents the user from using O365 apps as it keeps asking him to sign in.

    Hi Michael,

    Sorry for the issue persists.

If you don't mind to investigate further, I suggest you run Registry Editor as administrator. Then go to this path: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Office\16.0\Common\Identity\Identities to check whether there are duplicated folders with same email address.

If yes, please sign out Office applications and quit them. Go to Registry Editor and delete the duplicated folder. Restart PC and try to sign in Office and check the email account in Access work or school settings.

If issue persists, may I know whether you have one admin account and one user account have the same email account? It will help us move further.

    Appreciate your cooperation.

    Best Regards,

    Ivy

    Hi Michael,

May I know whether you can sign in Office with the correct account after deleting the registry key?

If no, I searched a lot about the Email& Account settings in Registry Editor, but I didn’t find any related information.

Since you can’t delete the Duplicate Microsoft Accounts in Email& Account, we sincerely suggest you try to create a new user account and check the result. If it works normally in the new user account, issue should be related to the current profile.

Please follow the steps in this article: Create a local user or administrator account in Windows 10

    Best Regards,

    Ivy

    Hello,

I have completed both of these steps on multiple occasions, both accounts persist. We have had to uninstall O365 and install Office 2016 as a temporary workaround.

    Hi Michael,

We understand you want to remove the Microsoft Accounts in windows so that you can sign in Office normally.

Form the screenshot you provided, we suggest you go to Access work or school, select the email account you want and disconnect this account.

Please make sure you have signed out all accounts in Office and quit the applications. After this, you can go to Credential Manager> Select Windows Credentials> Under the Generic Credentials, delete any items which relate to  Microsoft Office. Restart PC and try to sign in office applications and check the result.

If issue persists, please provide the screenshot you encountered and the Office product information in Control Panel, we will do best to help you.

    Best Regards,

    Ivy
