Hi I like to check how do I do a vlookup on 2 different sheets (tabs) that have names that are slightly different. Like the first name and last name is mixed up in both sheets. Or it could be the middle name is missing on 1st sheet and appears on 2nd sheet.

Here's a screen shot on attachment.

    Hi Ali,

Thanks, I've googled and tried this before. But it doesn't work.

I've added wild cards both at the front and back of the table array.

    =VLOOKUP($A$2:$A$602,"*"&'sheet2'!$A$217:$C$318&"*",3,FALSE)

You have chosen a range in the lookup value argument instead of a single cell and another thing is wild card character can be used within the lookup value argument instead of table array so this can be the reason you are getting an error.

Could you please share the screenshot of both of your tables (source table and the table where you want to look up the data) so I can look at the exact scenario?

(make sure to cover any private information before uploading it here as this is a public forum)

    Thanks,

    Ali

    Hi James,

Thanks for reaching out. My name is Ali. I'm an Independent Advisor and a Microsoft user like you. I'll be happy to help you out today.

You can perform partial lookup using a wild card character which helps you to deal with the scenario. Please refer to the links below
