MS Word, missing heading options

Windows 10, MS Word, I don’t know

The version number was taken out of MS Word in every place I can think of to look within Word.  Its from Office 2019, or many 2016.

When working a document captured from somewhere other than my computer, the heading options are not correct.  The options available are headings: 1, 2, 4, 5, 6.  Heading 3 is missing.  The numbers on both sides are present.  I will add an image because if I were you I probably would not believe it.  I found an old thread that is similar, but it is locked.

What might I do to restore the option for Heading 3?

Display the Styles pane. In the bottom right corner, click Options... In the Style Pane Options dialog, check the box for "Show next heading when previous level is used." Click OK. Now apply Heading 2 to some text. This should cause Heading 3 to appear in the Styles pane. Right-click on it and click Add to Style Gallery.

Did you click the Options button in the Styles pane?

In the dialog box that opens (see screen shot), you will see "Show next heading when previous level is used."

I would also suggest that you choose to show "All styles" and that you sort them alphabetically.

The reason the headings show up that way is that they have been linked to multilevel numbering in that document, which is an appropriate use.

It a good way to have numbering set up. You apply the number level by applying the appropriate style.

The problem is getting worse. From the Barnhill instructions

    Display the Styles pane

Menu bar home and a styles section is displayed.

    Click Options

Click the down/right arrow in the bottom right corner of Styles

In Style Pane Opeiont dialog, check the box for Show next heading

                    No such check box exists

The problem is getting worse.  Another document has headings out of order.

I don't want any heading linkage to anything.  How can I make this as simple as possible.

So what do I do when I want a Header 3, right here?

The work around is to scroll up or down and find a header 3, copy paste it to the new location, then edit the words that came with it.  Yeah, I can do that.  I would rather have header 3 in the list of options.
