Hello,

I'm just looking for some ideas on how to create a Sharepoint page that will will show pictures of employees and a break down of which departments they are part of.

I see some "free" apps but when I really look at them, they are not really free.=)

Is there some sort of template for this? Otherwise how can I create one on my own?

Please let me know.

Thank you,

Jay

The truth is there is no out of the box org chart option. The suggestion to use Spaces can't be serious - Spaces is just another one of those things Msft has added because "they can" - there's no demand for it or need for it, and it's a horrible way to display an org chart. Most users would prefer them to spend their time developing something useful - like a usable org chart - instead of wasting time on poorly implemented, eye candy that looks like something from the 90's.

I would look into the 3rd party developed modern PnP search option, which includes a people layout Handlebars template, can be easily customized and is open source.

    https://microsoft-search.github.io/pnp-modern-search/

There are also some other SPFx options worth exploring, but I haven't yet found one that fits the bill.

By the way, Msft has already built a serviceable org chart which can be seen on Delve pages and in Teams. For some unknown reason, they've never made it available to add to SP pages. This is the type of thing they should be spending time on instead of useless things that no one wants, like Spaces.

    Hi Jay,

Thank you for posting your question in this community.  From your description, you would like to create an organization structure chart and display in a SharePoint page to view.

In this scenario, there is a built-in feature in SharePoint to display organization chart in SharePoint. You can add a People part into SharePoint space page to display.

    For your information:

Add an org chart to a SharePoint space

    Create a SharePoint space

If you are using Microsoft Teams, it also can display organization chart in Teams if the admin  is enabled this feature in admin center.

Use the Organization tab in Teams

However, there is a few things you may need to know for the organization chart.

1:  The organization chart in Microsoft 365 auto generate, but its information is getting from the user profile in Azure Active Directory admin center > Users. Hence, you may need to take some time to edit your users’ profile in Azure Active Directory by giving them a detail user profile information with report manager.

    For your information:

Add or update a user's profile information using Azure Active Directory

2: Based on my testing and research, it seems that the organization chart in Microsoft365  generated the chart based on the report manager line rather than department. It seems that if you would like to break down the structure based on department, it may not feasible currently.

    Best regards,

    Dihao
